Find out what your gold is worth before you sell it!
Lets say you have a chain with 5 grams of 14K gold.

Spot price 1161.40 X 80% = 929.12
divided by 31.1 (Grams per toz.) = 29.87
X .585 (14K) = 17.47
X 5 grams = 87.38
87.38 would be paid to you for a 5 gram 14K gold chain in this example!
Here is an expanded look at finding the value for your gold.

Spot Price (see chart below): Take the spot price 1161.40 x 80% (payout percent) = 929.12

Divide payout amount by 31.1 for grams per troy ounce, or 20 for penny weights per troy ounce (dwt) Here we use grams. Scrap gold value per gram
929.12 divided by 31.3 = 29.87. Then multiply for the karat weight. Here we use 14K
29.87 x .585 = 17.47 (.585 is 14K) karat markings on jewelry . Then multiply the gram amount. Here we are using 5 grams.
17.47 x 5 grams = $87.38. This is the payout price for 5 grams of 14K gold @ 80% of 1161.40 spot price.

Today, I saw a nice new calculator on a site that shows the estimated payout they pay goldintomoney.com/calculator, and they are paying 12.86 per gram for 14K. this is about 60%! Take a look for yourself.

NOT too many people have this much scrap gold laying around! Even if you did, they are not paying good, relative to the amounts. 10-50 oz 50-100 oz 10K Gold $19.40(dwt) $19.78(dwt) 14K Gold $27.08(dwt) $27.62(dwt) 18K Gold $34.76(dwt) $35.45(dwt) Here they go by (dwt) 20 penney weights in one ounce: 10K gold they pay about 84% if you have 10 oz -50! NOT realistic! 14K gold they pay about 81% if you have 10 oz - 50 oz! If you had that much, I would pay you at least 90%!! SO, when you send in less than 10 oz, what do they pay? This is not known from the site. Take a look.
